Wakering Weather Watch
26/02/2014 THE PROSPECTS FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS.
The moon wanes (reduces in size) until NEW on Saturday 1st March. A few
days after this (Sat, Sun, Mon & Tuesday) we can expect some of the highest
predicted tides of 2014.
Starting on Friday 28th February the tides are predicted to reach 5.9
metres above the chart datum on the Southend tidal gauge.
This increases to 6.2 metres on Monday 3rd March.
Many factors have an important impact on the height of the tides apart from
the moon which control the astronomical height.
Probably the speed and direction of the wind the most important.
The indications are over the weekend the wind may swing to a north or north
west direction which may increase the height of the tide in this area. It
appears the wind may be pretty strong from this direction which may cause
further increases in tidal height.
Should the winds remain from the west, south or south west or return to
this direction this will have the effect of suppressing some of the increase in
tidal height fore mentioned.
